Health Care Legislation

Some state governments (CA, MA) have recently passed legislation to require that all residents be covered by some form of health insurance. Those that qualify may receive government subsidization, but those that do not must obtain coverage from their employer or buy private insurance themselves.

Which of the following is closest to your opinion about this recent trend in health care reform in states like California and Massachusetts?

1) Disapprove: Government has no legitimate purpose interfering with the health insurance industry in this way. Consumers and employers should be free to choose if and how they buy insurance for themselves or their employees.

2) Approve: These plans will provide adequate coverage to those who don't have it without changing the existing coverage for others.

3) Disapprove: These plans may actually increase the overall costs of health care by increasing paperwork; they will leave HMOs and Insurance companies in control of our health systems. We need single-payer insurance to reduce costs and provide quality health care to everyone.
